WSIS / Internet Governance BoF
22 Feb 2004, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
In short, following after the WSIS Declaration
and Plan of Actions, the United Nations will start a Working Group, under
Koffi Anan, to discuss about the "Internet Governance" including,
but not limited to the management regime of Names and Addresses. Among
the governments who proposed to put inter-governmental organizations such
as ITU in place for policy matters are several Asian governments including
China and Korea.
At this point, the UN has not shown any sign as to
how to organize this WG, but ITU is going to hold 2-day workshop on Internet
Governance on Feb 26-27 and I am invited as "experts" to give
some inputs.
(that's why I need to leave KL on 24th evening to catch a plane from Tokyo
to Geneva the next morning!)
UN ICT Task Froce will have 2-day special session called
"Global Forum"
on Mar 25-26 im New York. After these events, there will be call for WG
and the game will restart.
I think it is important for AP Internet community to
pay attention to these moves, which will definitely impact y/our government
and business, since this is not only about ICANN, but any "Internet
Governance" matters of common interest including, perhaps, anti-spam
control or international traffic issues.
So, with this BoF, I like to discuss possible
"actions" from AP community regarding how to cooperate and participate
in these moves.
