Network Management Workshop

Synopsis
A course for those who need to manage diverse Network and NOC operations. A combination of theory and lab, with lab work on Linux constituting about 60% of the total course.

Target Audience
Engineers and system staffs at ISPs and large networks including academic networks who are involved with system management, network monitoring and management and problem response. The course is for those who need to manage diverse Network and NOC operations.

Pre-requisites

  • Good knowledge of Unix/Linux
  • IPv4 addressing and general network concepts
  • Please note: participants are required to bring a laptop

Workshop Topics
The workshop will be a combination of theory and lab. The lab will constitute about 60% of the total course. Ubuntu Linux server version will be workshop platform. The course will cover:

  • General Network Management and Planning Principles
  • Network analysis and performance measurement
  • Network Operations Center concepts
  • SNMP and SNMP security consideration
  • Nagios, Cacti and SmokePing network monitoring tools
  • Ticketing systems (RT) and integration with other tools
  • Change control including Subversion, RANCID and web tools
  • NetFlow and NFSen
  • Log management and monitoring
  • Practical Cisco and HP configuration tips for network monitoring
