  • routes and AS objects give a abstract specification of the policy of a certain AS
  • it provides a device independent view of the policy for this AS
  • if this information is stored at some central location, neighboring ASes can lookup, verify and understand the policy of this AS
  • it provides a clear picture of where this AS fits into the Internet
