The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is an executive department of the Republic of the Philippines. It is responsible for the coordination of Science and Technology related projects and formulation of policies in support of national development. Under the department is the Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), a research and development institute concerned with scientific R&D in the advanced fields of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Microelectronics.

Through the years, ASTI continues to pursue its mission of contributing to the attainment of national development priorities and the growth of the Philippine enterprise by providing innovative solutions using ICT and Electronics. Guided by the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP) and the National Science and Technology Plan (NSTP) which both identified ICT as a top priority and an engine for national productivity, the Institute pursues various strategic programs and projects addressing job creation and enhancement of industry competitiveness, improvement of education, and decentralization of progress and development.
