What is APRICOT?

Apricot is an educational, non-profit, conference run by volunteers to develop and maintain Internet operational stability in Asia Pacific Region. The Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies (APRICOT) provides a forum for those key Internet builders in the region to learn from their peers and other leaders in the Internet community from around the world. Past Apricots were held in Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila and Seoul.

How about some history behind APRICOT?

Apricot is a non-profit event started by volunteers in 1996 and was financially underwritten by the regional IP address registry, APNIC, from 1996,1997,1998 -- with a *significant* contribution being made by David R. Conrad.

Apricot's success was largely due to the excellence of its no-nonsense technical program with its operational focus. However, it has grown from being the premier technical conference to being the main conference around which the Asia Pacific Internet Community congregates.

No longer financially underwritten by APNIC, the future of the APRICOT conference is now being coordinated by the Apricot Executive Committee. For information on the Apricot Exco, go to www.apricot.net

Where would APRICOT 2001 be held?

APRICOT 2001 would be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 26 February to 2 March 2001. The Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry Malaysia (PIKOM) and the Ministry of Energy, Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia will be co-hosting the event. PIKOM is the premier IT trade association in Malaysia representing 348 members that are involved in the whole spectrum of IT products and services. The Ministry of Energy, Communications and Multimedia is the government ministry responsible for the development of the communications and multimedia industry in Malaysia.

The Venue?

The conference and tutorials will be held at Putra World Trade Centre, a world-class conference and exhibition centre with a host of facilities, including a fully-equipped business centre and a restaurant. International class hotels and shopping centres are walking distance from the convention centre. Transportation is not a problem as it is located in the city centre with ample taxis and buses plying the route. The Light Rail Transit (LRT) also serves the area.
