APRICOT 2013

APIPv6TF

Asia Pacific IPv6 Task Force (APIPv6TF)

When: Wednesday, 27 February 2013
Time: 14:00 - 15:30 (UTC +8)
Where: Jurong
Acting Chair: Michael Biber

The APIPv6TF was established in 2003 to encourage IPv6 deployment in the Asia Pacific region and to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange. Several economies have shared the responsibilities of managing the Secretariat during the past seven years.

Although the exact statistics for various IPv6 deployment still have space to grow, the growth rate of IPv6 deployment in the last 12 months is significant. The percentage of users that access Google over IPv6 increased more than 170% in the past 12 months. IPv6 deployment measurement on IPv6 readiness of end users conducted by labs.apnic.net shows 280% growth in the past 12 months. It is important for all of us to keep working on IPv6 deployment to keep this growth momentum going.

We received many IPv6 update stories from speakers from different economies in the past APIPv6TF Meetings. Such presentations featured diversified content including technical stories on the protocol, anecdotal stories of IPv6 deployment by operators, governments' support to the industry, and other stakeholders' efforts to support IPv6 transition.

APIPv6TF will have another meeting in Singapore in conjunction with APRICOT 2013 and APNIC 35. We will hear various updates from different economies and organizations. Suggested topics include:

  • Current IPv6 deployment status including some statistics
  • IPv6 deployment road map review and update
  • Sharing IPv6 deployment experience – lessons learned
  • IPv6 in mobile networks
